The star attraction is the beautifully restored Lilleshall triple expansion steam engine, known as "Marshall," which visitors can see in action on special steam days. Originally built by Henry VIII and later redesigned in the 17th century, Tilbury Fort played a vital role in defending London from seaborne invasion. It’s famously associated with Queen Elizabeth I, who rallied her troops there in 1588 as the Spanish Armada loomed. Walking its massive star-shaped bastions, gun lines, and moats, you can almost hear the echoes of cannon fire and marching soldiers.
