Hidden in plain sight, the Clockhouse Gardens is an oasis of nature in the heart of Upminster. This three-acre site is ideal for a quick walk to blow away the cobwebs. Bring some duck food: the swans, geese and ducks on the pond will be delighted to see you. There’s also a charming sculpture/play area and a bowling green, making this site popular with a variety of local residents.

Sunnycroft Gardens, Upminster, RM14 1HR

An incredibly diverse range of plants and animals are to be found in this relatively small nature reserve. Designated a Grade I Site of Borough Importance for Nature Conservation, the ponds, wildflower meadows, woodland and other habitats create a lovely setting for walks, while the open space and play area to the north are ideal for letting children burn off some energy.

Water sports, climbing, target sports, offroad driving… there’s something for everyone at Stubbers Adventure Centre. From relaxing and core-strengthening paddleboard yoga to cold water dipping, axe throwing and even corporate events, every age and interest is sure of a great day out.

Broadfields Farm, Pike Ln, Upminster, RM14 3NS

Within Thames Chase Community Forest, this centre is a hub for socialising and exploring your surroundings. Enjoy the café and shop before meandering along the managed trails around the ponds, meadows and orchard. There are also guided walks and other events available to join.

This popular members club incorporates the course, bowling green and clubhouse. Whether you’d like to visit for a round or enquire about becoming a member of Upminster Golf Club, you’ll find a welcoming community and exceptional course.

Jam-packed full of historical artifacts, curiosities and items of nostalgia, you could spend hours at the Tithe Barn Museum. Dating back to around 1450, this medieval agricultural barn was once a part of the Waltham Abbey estate and now sees a range of curious visitors every year. Friendly and knowledgeable staff are also on hand to help direct your exploration and answer any questions you may have.

Last on the list but an undeniable icon of the area is Upminster Windmill. Seemingly out of place surrounded by houses, this stunning historic structure dates back to 1803. Now a Grad II* listed building, it is carefully maintained by The Friends of Upminster Windmill. Visit for open days and events throughout the year.
