Nestled in the heart of Essex, South Weald is a village steeped in history and charm. Dating back to the Great Domesday Book, it has long been a desirable village location, offering a blend of rural beauty and timeless character.
At its heart lies the historic St. Peter’s Church, with origins tracing back to the 12th century, and the expansive Weald Country Park, once a deer park in the reign of Henry VIII and now a haven for wildlife and outdoor exploration.
South Weald’s character is defined by its mix of traditional architecture, scenic countryside, and rich heritage as a ‘holy’ land. For centuries, South Weald has been a place where history and nature converge, offering a tranquil escape without losing touch with the conveniences of contemporary life. Its enduring appeal makes it the perfect setting for luxurious yet understated.
Ideal for families or downsizers seeking a tranquil retreat, the village merges chocolatebox charm with excellent schooling, restaurants, bars and other amenities nearby. Venture a little further and you’ll find bistro pub dining, scenic golf courses, historic landmarks, a local airfield, and a wealth of picturesque walking or riding trails to enjoy.
Families are well-supported with an excellent choice of state and independent schools all within easy reach, including the Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ St Peter’s Primary.
London and the towns of Essex are also easily accessible. Whether you’re commuting for work, dining at a special restaurant, or attending a West End show, the city is closer than you think.
With Romford and Shenfield stations nearby, you can quickly hop on the Elizabeth Line and reach Liverpool Street in just minutes.
Vicarage Wood enjoys excellent transport links, with the A12, M25, and Stansted Airport just a short drive away.

What's it like to live near Brentwood?
Living in BrentwoodAt Beresfords, we’re here to support you at every step as you purchase your dream home. To give you an idea of the buying journey, we’ve put together a step-by-step guide, but we are here to answer all your questions and help you on your way.
Once you have found your dream home, we can book a reservation appointment for you to formally reserve the property. We will discuss the details, and your reservation fee will secure the house for 28 days while the sale proceeds. This is the moment to ask a solicitor/conveyancer for help with the purchase contracts. We hold a list of trusted professionals we would be happy to recommend.
You will also need to apply to your chosen lender if you plan to use a mortgage for the purchase. To speed things up, prepare the following documents ahead of time:
Proof of your deposit
Bank statements
Proof of identity, e.g. UK driving license or passport
Proof of address, e.g. a utility bill,
credit report
Conveyancing
At this time, your solicitor begins the conveyancing process, and your mortgage lender may instruct a survey of the property. You may also have some choices about the finishing touches for your home.
Contracts
Your solicitor will ask you to read and sign the paperwork, and you will need to pay your deposit (minus the reservation fee). Your mortgage will be issued so that funds can be transferred.
Exchange
The final and most exciting moment is the exchange of contracts when you sign the purchase agreement and take ownership of the property.
