Fullsteam ahead for the postelection housing market

It’s set to be a busy summer at Beresfords as we’re already seeing a surge of activity as potential vendors and buyers who were sitting tight until after the election are spurred into action. The removed threat of a mansion tax in particular is set to have a positive impact on our Country Homes division.

Fabulous country home is available in Maldon

The election result is sure to ripple out to the Home Counties and Essex, which boasts some of the best commuter towns in the region and outstanding value for money. City homeowners are releasing their assets and moving to our county where they can buy a lot more house for their budget, enjoy excellent commuting times and access sought-after schools for their children.

Perfect for family living and commuting

Getting more people on the housing ladder was a hot topic in the run up to the election. The new Conservative government has already outlined how they plan to increase home ownership, especially for first-time buyers:

During his pre-election visit to Colchester, the Prime Minister announced that the Conservatives would extend the existing Starter Homes Initiative and build 200,000 new starter homes across Britain by 2020. These homes will be available to first time buyers at a 20% discount, which is funded by reducing the direct costs house builders have to pay to local authorities.

The Tory manifesto also cemented the party’s plans to extend the Help to Buy Equity Loan Scheme to 2020. The scheme allows borrowers to apply for a five-year, interest-free government loan, provided they can pay at least a five per cent deposit and find a lender for the rest.

And the government is also planning to enhance the existing Right to Buy scheme by offering discounts of up to £102,700 in London and £77,000 in the rest of England for those living in housing association homes.
