What’s on in Essex
Are you looking for something to spruce up the next month? Here’s our roundup of things to see and do.
Thursday 21st May
Bedfords Park Walled Garden, Havering atte Bower
Volunteer 'members' help grow food, keep fit and improve their health and wellbeing through being in a natural environment and part of a small community. The aim of the project is to restore the Georgian garden and turn it into a community food growing hub. Volunteer gardeners help to grow food on the site in the polytunnel and in growing beds. All work is assessed specifically to the individual. No experience necessary.
Bedfords Park Walled Garden has developed over the last 2 years with a Lottery Food Grant which ended in March 2014. Now secured is also a new Big Lottery Reaching Communities Grant up to the end of 2017.

Learn to Stand Up Paddle (SUP)
May 30th, June 7th, June 13th
Various locations in Essex
Frangipani SUP will teach you how to stand up on a paddle board for the very first time and then get paddling on the beautiful and tranquil River Chelmer, part of the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation running from Chelmsford to Heybridge Basin, in Essex. Frangipani SUP lives on its banks, paddle on it all the time and know it all extremely well!
Frangipani SUP are proud to be a recognised British Stand Up Paddle Association (BSUPA) paddle board school. They strive professionally to promote the sport and have very high safety standards, plus are qualified to teach, assess and award riders with the BSUPA Level 1 Certificate, ‘Ready to Ride'.
Stand up paddle (SUP) board riding is one of the fastest growing water sports in the UK. You stand on a specially designed board, put on a lightweight, easily detachable velcro ankle or calf leash and you hold a single paddle in both hands. You change the paddle from one side of the board to the other as you paddle and steer your board through the water. Most people can master the basic strokes in just an hour or two!
