What’s On (2)

By Nicki Treffers - 24 August 2015

With the school holidays coming to an end you may have exhausted all the options on how to keep the kids entertained. Here’s a selection of events that are happening over the next two weeks to keep the entire family entertained.

Events 24th August – 7th September

  • Play in the Park at Oaklands Park Chelmsford, 26th August 10am – 12pm, 1.30pm – 3.30pm.

Play in the Park is a series of free two-hour multi-activity sessions for children aged at various community and parish venues during the Easter & Summer Holidays. Join the Play Workers for sports, arts, crafts, games and free-play.

Most activities are based outside but we usually go ahead whatever the weather! Gazebos provide shade and shelter for arts activities and in inclement weather.

Our walk of the week!

•     Ingatestone

This is a pleasant walk in the countryside outside Ingatestone. It begins with a stroll along the banks of a tributary of the River Wild before taking you through fields to Margaretting Church, then across the Great Eastern Main Line.

Then you will walk over farmland to Margaretting, before going along St Peter's Way through the water meadows, back under the railway and west towards Margaretting Tye, where there is a lovely welcoming pub if you should feel like taking a breather. The route back to the parking takes you through three of the ancient manors of Buttsbury, with some beautiful views across the Essex countryside.

You will be taught about farming and market gardening in a fun and hands on way. You will get stuck in helping to look after the animals and gardens and learn about the traditional tools and techniques farmers used to use and how they still use some today.
