Trotters Bring Home the Bacon

By Denise Allen - 04 July 2013

The BNY Mellon Brentwood 10k run, organised by the Thrift Green Trotters and sponsored by Beresfords, has raised £1,700 for the local Saint Francis Hospice.

Thrift Green trotters are based in Brentwood and are one of the largest running groups in the Country.  Ken Bench and Brian Harding, from the running group, visited the hospice based in Havering-atte-Bower on Friday 7th June to present the money to go towards patient care.

The event nearly didn’t happen. Originally due to take place last July the terrible wet summer weather meant that the intended course was waterlogged and so it had to be postponed.

“Ironically the weather in October when we finally got the event on was much better than in July” said Brian. “Thanks to BNY Mellon, Gosnay’s, Beresfords, Brentwood Leisure Trust, Fast Feet Sports Ltd , our Race Committee and membership, we were delighted to be able to organise the event on the 14th of October and raise all this money for the great work that the hospice does in Brentwood and surrounding areas”.

Terry Holmes, Director at Beresfords, commented; “Beresfords are pleased to sponsor this annual race that is generally regarded as one of the toughest road races in the Country.  It is great to see athletes from far afield come to Essex to help raise money for such a worthy charity.”
