Essex: a county for fashionistas!

By Denise Allen - 24 October 2016

We’ve all heard of the ‘Waitrose effect’ and now the ‘Aldi effect’ on property prices, Essex is bracing itself for further interest from property buyers and investors as the county has just witnessed the launch of over 70 brands at a new Fenwick’s in Colchester, plus a John Lewis and 30 stores and seven restaurants plus a luxury ‘Everyman’ cinema at the new ‘Bond Street’ shopping development in Chelmsford. Plans have also just been announced to further develop Essex’s designer outlet village at Freeport Braintree.

The county’s love of labels has been well-noted but for fashion lovers these new developments have put Essex firmly on the fashion map, making it an even more desirable place to be. Terry Holmes, Director, Beresfords, explains: “Essex really does offer a very high standard of living – you can enjoy cosmopolitan centres, pick up a designer label or two, head back to your country pad or city home and make the most of its locality. Essex has so much to offer from its rural idyll and stunning coastline to its busy restaurants and bustling High Streets.”

He continued: “What’s more the county enjoys the fastest transport links into the City and with Crossrail about to launch in 2017, linking Shenfield and the county to central London; it offers a lot for commuters and residents.”

Compared to other Home Counties Essex also offers great value for money for house hunters. Recent Rightmove* statistics show the average house price in Essex is £309,486, which is £73,050 cheaper than the average house for properties in the Home Counties (£382,536).  Middlesex is the most expensive home county to buy a home - £507,570.
